REASONS WHY STUDENTS LOSE ADMISSION - PROF

REASONS WHY STUDENTS LOSE ADMISSION

In the midst of stiff competition for admission into higher institutions, you receive a provisional admission letter; it is always a thing of joy for the individual, family and friends. The expectation of everyone thereafter is just to wait for the commencement of registration process; when the great achievement becomes formalized. Testimonials, Letter of References, SSCE statement results will be put together among other required items in preparation for registration. However, many a times, the candidates become greatly disappointed and frustrated when he or she discovers that due to one reason or the other, the admission is cancelled or withdrawn.
The question is why do candidates lose admission?
The following are some of the reasons:
  • Omission or mix up of vital information such as gender, names, state of origin, etc., while filling the UTME online form.
  • Mix up (pictures, names, subject combinations) by the agent helping to fill the UTME online form.
  • Mistakenly selecting a course you do not have credit passes in SSCE subjects required for the course. For example, selecting Business Administration instead of Educational Administration or Public Administration, or choosing Educational Economics instead of Economics.
  • Mistakenly selecting a wrong code.
  • Reading requirements of a wrong course to justify qualification for selecting another. For example, using the subject requirements for Public Administration while selecting Business Administration.
  • Missing out on the period of registration due to lack of information or ill health that is not reported.
  • Administrative mix up or omission of vital details by the institution officer. For example, failure of the institution to update entry requirements.
  • Wrong UTME subject combination for the course applied for. E.g., writing in physics, chemistry, Biology while applying for engineering course.
  • Failure to check the updated subject combination required but relying on previous years’ information. E.g., Further Mathematics for Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science in some institutions.
  • Using fake SSCE results which the institutions often discover later.
  • Using impersonator during UTME. The biometrics and pictures are always different.
  • Inability to pay the registration fees.
  • Inability to follow through every stage of the registration process, some rely on hearsay or wrong information to miss out on vital stage of registration.
  • Inability to provide a required document such as testimonial, JAMB admission letter, SSCE results computer printout etc.
  • Failure in SSCE results. For example, ‘F’ grade in Mathematics, English Language or a required subject.
  • Inability to make up the five credit passes in UTME subjects for the course.
